Changes in telephone hours

As of February 1st telephone hours for case handlers and lawyers, for questions regarding residence permits, visas and Icelandic citizenship will be as follows:
 
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:00 - 12:00.
 
Telephone hours for questions regarding asylum applications remain on Thursdays from 10:00 - 12:00.
 
For all general enquiries the switchboard is open Monday through Friaday from 10:00 to 14:00.
 
The Directorate's telephone number is 444 0900.

New Act on Foreigners

A new Act on Foreigners entered into force on January 1st 2017. The act introduces several changes, i.e. concerning the conditions of certain residence permits, document requirements and applicants’ rights.
 
Guidelines and forms on the Directorate’s website have not been fully updated however all relevant information will be on the website by the end of January. Individuals who plan to submit a residence permit application will need to follow closely the information on the website regarding the relevant permit. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Telephone hours cancelled over holidays

Telephone hours of case workers and lawyers regarding residence permits, visas, Icelandic citizenship and international protection are cancelled from December 23rd until January 3rd 2017. 
 
The Directorate’s reception will be open on December 23rd and every working day between Christmas and New Year.

Due to preparatory work concerning the implementation of the new Act on Foreigners the telephone hour for lawyers is cancelled today Monday 19th December.

New Act on Foreigners enters into force January 1st 2017

The Directorate of Immigration has since autumn been preparing the implementation of a new Act on Foreigners which enters into force on January 1st 2017. The act introduces several changes, i.e. concerning the conditions of certain residence permits, document requirements and applicants’ rights.
 
Guidelines and forms on the Directorate’s website will not have been fully updated upon the entry into force however all relevant information will be on the website by the end of January. Individuals who plan to submit a residence permit application after January 1st 2017 will need to follow closely the information on the website regarding the relevant permit. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.
