Processing fee for a residence permit
Applications for residence permits can be submitted at the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration and at offices of District Commissioners in Iceland for a processing fee. When you apply for a residence permit for the first time, the application form and supporting documents can be sent to the Directorate by post along with a proof of payment of the fee, see here.
Those who are allowed to be in Iceland, while their first time application for a residence permit is being processed, should submit their application in person at the Directorate of Immigration/office of a District Commissioner. See here which applicants are allowed to be in Iceland during the processing of a first application.
When applying for a renewal of a residence permit, the applicant must submit his application in person at the Directorate of Immigration/ office of a District Commissioner.

Processing fee for Icelandic citizenship
The Icelandic Directorate of Immigration charges a fee for the processing of applications of Icelandic citizenship. Applicants for Icelandic citizenship are allowed to send their applications with supporting documents by post to the Directorate which must include a proof of payment of the processing fee, see here.

Processing fee deposited in a bank (when applying for first residence permit or Icelandic citizenship)
Application has to be paid for before sending it to The Directorate.
Application sent by post should be addressed to: Útlendingastofnun, Skógarhlíð 6, 105 Reykjavík.
Proof of payment (bank receipt) must be included with the application, or the application will be returned to sender by regular post. This also applies to applications where the fee has not been paid in full.
Please be advised that your bank may charge a processing fee for international transfers and if that fee is not paid separately the bank will withdraw it from your transferred amount.
