The Directorate of Immigration has received an information request from the parliamentary ombudsman and other supervisional authorities regarding the handling of asylum applications of two families which have been covered in the media of late. The requests will be addressed within the given time limits and the Directorate will not elaborate on the cases until information has been provided to the supervisional authorities.
Regardless, the Directorate reiterates that the applications were processed in full accordance with Icelandic law. Furthermore, the Directorate has sought to inform the public as far as possible with due respect to the people‘s right to privacy.
The Directorate has sent the families‘ representative a request for consent for the Directorate to comment on the facts of the case and disclosing information regarding it.
